Data Structure

Post by bbadawi »

Hi,
I have a simple question. I am trying to understand the relationships between Styles, Sounds, Performances, PCMS and so on. I looked at the different manuals Korg has published (I own a PA600), and have seen and collected some diagrams showing the relationship between Styles and their elements, etc, however, I would greatly appreciate it if someone can explain how the samples and PCM make up the entire hierarchy of the Korg proprietary data structure.
Thank you very much,
Cheers,
Bash

Hi,

You can find a nice diagram on Page 162 of the PA600 Manual.

Have a look here for a Model Compatibility Table: http://www.korgpa.com/support/bonusware.html

Samples are stored in PCMs.
A Multisamle uses the Samples that are contained in these PCMs.
A Sound can use a single or many Multisamples to make up a sound, [OSC Layers]
A Performance holds up to 4 Tracks of Sounds. UP1, UP2, UP3, Lower.
So a Performance is a GROUP of 4 Sounds.
A Style holds the Style data + 4 STSs. [Single Touch Settings]
An STS is like a Performance. So a Style can hold up to 4 Performances for quick access whilst you play.
A Pad can be a single sound/beat/loop, 4 Pads can be assigned to a Style and played/stopped in Real-time if you want.

Hope these clear out a few things for you.
